Three Floating Post Offices housed in Shikaras (boats) were opened in Srinagar during 1955-56.
1. Mobile Post Office Jhelum, Srinagar: Apr 10 to Oct 31, 1955
2. Mobile Post Office Dal Lake, Srinagar: Apr 16 to Oct 31, 1955
3. Mobile Post Office Naginbagh, Srinagar: Jul 2 to Oct 31, 1955
These Mobile Post Offices catered to the needs of tourists who generally stay in Kashmir on houseboats and find it difficult to transact postal business with stationary Post Offices situated on the land. The facility has been much appreciated by the tourists
